PROJECT: Wastewater

Frito Lay Industrial Wastewater Treatment System Upgrade

Aberdeen, Maryland

Client

Frito Lay

Construction Value:

$3.8 Million

Overview:

In 2017, the T-O Engineers Boise Office Team (formerly Pharmer Engineering) developed the process treatment, construction plans and specifications for an industrial wastewater treatment system upgrade at the Frito Lay Aberdeen, Maryland snack foods plant.  The project included the addition of secondary treatment at the industrial pre-treatment site to reduce BOD/COD loading that was impacting the City of Aberdeen, Maryland wastewater treatment plant.  The BOD/COD contribution from the industrial plant was pushing the municipality’s plant to near its loading capacity.

Once T-O Engineers produced a preliminary set of plans and process design that was approved by Frito Lay, they met with the City of Aberdeen, Maryland to discuss the design and impact to the municipal treatment plant.  The City welcomed the opportunity to provide comments and recommendations on the design.  The City remained involved through the submission of final design sets and helped to expedite the review and permitting process.  The design engineering team’s inclusion of the City along with the industrial client throughout the design phase resulted in an open and optimized design benefiting all parties.
